According to Natural News, new research published in JAMA Internal Medicine throws light on how more than 10,000 chemical additives used in the food industry have no FDA approval and are completely backed by industry-funded and supported safety assessments. This comes as a shocker, as the number of new additives being used in foods is increasing day by day. Though they are hardly ever sent to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for review, which, in short, means that the general population is put at risk; they are being treated like guinea pigs by the big giant food additive experiment. If the report published is to be believed, than from the year 1997 to the year 2013 the FDA has hardly verified 451 additives, because it received voluntary notifications from individuals or groups who are connected to the food industry in some way or the other.

Have you ever wondered what it is that makes the foods that we consume, mainly the fast foods, so tasty and lip smacking? Well, it is due to the presence of MSG, or Monosodium Glutamate, a kind of salt that enhances the flavor of foods. But the interesting fact is that, unlike the available natural glutamic acid, the MSG that we consume is processed. Hence, it has the capability of causing adverse effects on one’s health, such as skin rashes, itching, hives, nausea, vomiting, migraine headaches, asthma, heart irregularities, depression and even seizures.
And surprise of all surprises, 43% of the 10,000-plus food additives in use are considered so safe they’re exempt from Food and Drug Administration supervision. Wondering how this is possible? Well, as per reports, Congress had stated in the year 1958 that additive manufacturers have the right to decide on their own what food additives were GRAS without involving the FDA. Companies are not required to inform the FDA when they’ve decided an additive is safe as long as they submit scientific literature that supports its decision.
